For seven years, Gingerbread World has proudly partnered with Safe in Sussex, crafting charity gingerbread houses that support vital work for victims of domestic abuse. Safe in Sussex provides essential services, including support groups, a helpline, and refuges across West Sussex, making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

During the Covid lockdowns, the charity saw a significant increase in calls for help, underscoring the importance of their work. Domestic abuse remains a silent epidemic: 1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime, and shockingly, the police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds. Yet, less than 24% of domestic abuse crimes are reported. These statistics are heartbreaking, but they highlight why Safe in Sussex’s work is crucial.

I’m honoured to create gingerbread house kits that not only raise funds but also symbolise the importance of a safe home—a place where everyone deserves to feel secure.

Each year, Safe in Sussex hosts a Gingerbread House Competition, open to businesses, community groups, and individuals, all coming together to support this incredible cause. Whether you enter the competition or simply enjoy a kit at home, your support makes a difference.

Domestic abuse is isolating, but it’s important to remember: you are not alone. By joining us in this effort, you’re helping shine a light on a critical issue and supporting the thousands of people Safe in Sussex reaches each year. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, please reach out to Deb West, Safe in Sussex’s dedicated fundraising officer, or visit their website for more details. Together, we can help create a world where everyone feels safe at home.
